Colorful Surprises In November...

I just took a stroll through the garden and just look at all the colors I encountered!

What was the date again? Why yes, it is the 10th of November!   {smile}

I Am Pants At Sewing Pants!

(a British expression for being very bad at something...)

The blue markings show where things went wrong.
The flesh colored markings show where my body fit in the pants.
Nuff said...
Uhmmm yes, something went very wrong with these pants. I somehow added the yoke (the upper part of the pants) upside down and this created the outgoing-effect instead of the body-hugging-effect. I actually had to laugh out loud when I put the pants on!  <wink>
The zipper is already in (on the side) so it would be waaaay too much work to undo it all. To the scrap pile it goes!

Not to worry, I knew before going in to this project that the chances of failure were very large (pants never fit right when you sew them yourself, except for pj-pants...). I did have fun working on it though and the fabric was quite nice. Maybe I can use some of it as accent pieces in future projects. And future sewing projects I have plenty of! (see previous post)

The weather is absolutely gorgeous today, but tomorrow a big cold front will be moving in so I am heading outdoors while I can. Cheerio!

Beavering Away...

Today I went to the big patterns sale at Joann's (=  huge fabric/ craft store) and I scored:
5 patterns for $5!  (so $1 dollar each...)
Normally these patterns retail for $18 dollars EACH, can you believe it???

I did my homework beforehand and wrote down all the possible pattern numbers I was interested in et voila, 6 patterns later I am a happy woman!   <wink>  So I bought three Lisette patterns since they are so much fun. I made one of their dresses in the Spring and it fit me very nicely. (that orange and pink one)

I've already cut out all the pieces to the pants and the tunic-dress of #2245 and now the fun part begins where I have to decide which fabrics to use. (I have quite a few to choose from) The pants will be the same grey chambray fabric that they have used since I happened to have bought a piece earlier this year but never used it...
Here are some variations on the pattern that I found on the net,
just to give you a better idea of the pocket detail on the front etc...
 And then I also bought these patterns:

The shirt-dress/ tunic on the left is very adaptable and I thought the little skirt on the right was just fun, especially with the pocket detail in the front. And of course the dress with the vintage vibe in the middle: Yay!

After a weekend of gorgeous sunshine it is now super dreary and wet outside: perfect sewing weather!

Fun Little Makings...

Yesterday, as I was cleaning up my crafting area, I came across the Tomte doll I was going to make for the neighbors. (not! way too much fiddly work...)
It was almost finished anyway so I thought I might as well finish it all the way:

Those spindly legs make me laugh every time I see them!
Tomten Doll
The neck area wasn't sturdy enough to keep the head up so you really only can have him/ her hanging from a peg, but that's ok. I added two little bells and a warm scarf. (recognize that fabric from my latest tartan skirt?)

I also came across those lace curtains I bought a while back. I originally had them hanging in the front room but I really disliked the fact that I couldn't see outside properly!  <spying on the neighbors, wink>

So, I cut them in two and hung them in the tv room area in the back of the house. They were missing just a couple of inches in width to close all the way so I added some vintage sheet parts (the same sheets that I also used for the quilt in that room) to either side to make them look all snug and cosy. Me likey!  {smile}

These two top photos have an antique effect to them...

That was about it for today. I'm waiting for the patterns sale at Joann's to start tomorrow so that I can sew something new from my every growing fabric stack!

PS: How do you like my new cursor??? I found it at Free Cursors 4U. Simply copy their code and add it to a HTML/ Java gadget on your design page. Super easy!

I was actually looking for one of those trailing cursors (you know, the ones that leave a trail once you move your cursor around your page) but I couldn't figure out where exactly in the code I had to put it! Oh well, this rosy rose is very pretty as well. I'll probably have a X-mas themed cursor after Thanksgiving...

Fog Over The Valley...

Another gorgeous day today. Look what I saw around 9 am this morning, about 5 minutes from our home...

This pictures were taken with my little Canon Powershot camera. I also found the following picture in there of Mount Rainier. It wasn't taken today but it could have since it is so clear out.

The Return Of The Light...

Yes folks, my special winter- light- lamp has returned. Hopefully it will give my energy levels a boost so that I can make it through these dark  and dreary days...

I'm going to clean up my messy crafting table so that there will be, both literally and figuratively speaking, more room to create once again...

Wishing you a relaxing weekend!

This is the tranquil mood I'm going for this weekend,
even though there is no snow in sight...
( picture borrowed from Nordingarden)

Blocked...

The first X-Mas  decoration has been bought... (at Target of course)

Other than that I'm suffering from quite the creative block...

But at least I can still make prety pictures!

Halloween Roundup...

Even though I am not Halloween fan at all, I have to admit I had a good time last night! Pumpkins were carved, neighbors' houses were decorated and lots of fun dress-up was to be seen. And candy was eaten of course...

Very foggy and spooky outside...
Miss M. and her friends decided to dress up as gnomes so I made them the hats and added a little bell to each one of them. They sang songs on our porch and all the neighborhood kids were mightily impressed!

I was already impressed that they (teenagers I will remind you) came up with this idea themselves and actually went through with it!  <wink>

A bit blurry but you get the idea...
I fed all the kids (8 in total) with Macaroni & Cheese while the grown-ups were fed pumpkin soup and chili with lots of accouterments (read wine & beer) across the road. A party on a Monday night, what is not to like?  {smile}

Now onwards to X-mas we go! Oh no, first there is Thanksgiving of course... That will be our first longer break since August (no Autumn vacations here unfortunately) so that will be nice...

And Then There Were Two...
