Wow! It started snowing Sunday afternoon and wham! we were in the middle of winter all of a sudden. Over here 6 inches (= 15 cm) fell and it was just like a winter wonderland, so incredibly beautiful...
We did hear lots of strange sounds that night and some creaking. The next morning I found that a 50 foot tree, which had been standing with the help of studs already when we bought the house nine years ago, had come down. It narrowly missed our garden shed by a foot or so! The snow was incredibly wet and heavy, thus the breaking of a lot of branches and downing of trees.
Yesterday, Snow Day number 2, we went out and started removing the limbs by hand. An enormous job for just the two of us, but we like doing these kind of projects together. We did as much as we could with some clippers and a hand saw, but now we've ordered a chainsaw so that this weekend we can hopefully get rid of the rest of it. Well, at least to have it cut in pieces. I think we'll wait with loading pieces into our pick-up truck until the kids are home to give us a hand. Of course it happened at the complete farthest end of our garden away from where the truck is, so lots of back and forth walking/ schlepping in our future...
School started again today after two days of, but with a 9:30 start. Roads are still icy in places and there is apparently still a lot of debris every where. I think I read somewhere that up to 140.000 houses were without power. We only suffered from no internet for 14 hours...
Anyway, I'll leave you with some pics from all the happenings over here. There is lots of rain in the forecast so I think this is the last of the snow we'll be seeing for a while...
