Boterham Met Kaas... (cheese sandwich)

Mr. G. took extra good care of me today: he drove all the way to the Dutch bakery in Bothell to buy some authentic Dutch bread: YUM!!!  {big, big smile}

I've been feeling quite under the weather for the past three days (a cold, some aches and pains and all my usual energy seems to have been drained) and this simple thing of a Dutch cheese sandwich (unfortunately the cheese wasn't Dutch) just made my day.

I know, on the surface it looks like any old kind of bread, but believe you me, it is not! It is Dutch bread and oh boy, I could eat a whole loaf! (I'm on slice number 4 now) Sometimes you just want something from home, even though it hasn't been my 'home' for the past 22 years, but I'm sure you know what I mean. You can't get much more 'homey' in The Netherlands than having a 'boterham met kaas'.  (except for maybe a 'boterham met hagelslag' but I will have to special order those chocolate sprinkles)

I will show you the pretty pics that I took in my friend's garden a few days ago a bit later ok, but for now I just wanted to share this (for me) blog-worthy moment...  <wink>

  1. I'm sorry you're not feeling well, Marjan! But a cheese sandwich would make me feel better, too :~) The bread looks delicious!!!

    I feel the same way about the Los Angeles area~~it will always be my home, no matter how long I live in Oregon.

    Take care of yourself and feel better soon, because it's still summer, at least here in Portland :~)

  5. I hope you feel better soon. I know what you mean about needing a little homely pick me up - though I'm not too sure what mine would be. I think maybe Heinz tomato soup....if I was feeling unwell.

    Take care and get well soon
